Development of rural areas in Małopolska
12/28/2009

At the request of the Malopolska Development Policy Observatory, researchers of the Institute of Geography and Spatial Organization of the Polish Academy of Science prepared a report on the evaluation of impact of the Cohesion Policy and the Common Agriculture Policy instruments on social and economic development of rural areas in Małopolska.

Since 2004, the date of our accession to the European Union, the major part of European funds supporting the economic and social development has been aimed at rural areas and diversification of their economic structure. Now, after a few years, a diagnosis of effects of the funds is possible and necessary. The evaluation of their impact on the level of development (of those areas?) as well as on the dynamics of structural changes seems to be a crucial part of strategic planning and development policy until the year 2020.

The research reveals the scale of changes of the level of development of the rural areas within the region. It includes an analysis of the structure of public (European Union) interventions as well as impact evaluation of these interventions on rural areas development and on the implementation of the Regional Development Strategy.

The report is available in the Polish version.
